Position Description:

We’re looking for curious, detail-oriented content developers to maintain and improve the Quest question banks. The ideal candidate has strong beginner to intermediate college Physics content knowledge, is savvy with coding (TeX/LaTeX/JavaScript, or eager to learn) and technology, works well independently, communicates responsibly, and takes initiative to leave things better than how they found them.


Content Development Student Technician duties include:

  • Assist with course development projects which may include:
    • Editing old questions and instructional material for correct content solutions and explanations (using TeX/LaTeX)
    • Error checking of requested materials (strong understanding of physics necessary)
    • Parsing multi-part questions into individual segments
    • Entering new questions and instructional material (using TeX/LaTeX)
    • (possibly) Creation of pictures/diagrams (using PS tricks)
  • Communicate with physics professors about question needs and developments
  • Beta tester to provide input on design layout, needed function, and end user irritants
  • Perform accurate data entry and verification of information in the Quest system
  • Other duties as necessary; special projects as interest and programmatic need overlaps


What you bring to the team:

  • Strong beginner to intermediate college physics content knowledge
  • Experience with coding languages (TeX/JS preferred, LaTeX, C, Python, HTML)
  • Enthusiasm to troubleshoot and spontaneously find solutions
  • Keen attention to detail
  • Written and verbal communication skills
  • Perseverance to follow through with tasks with minimal oversight
  • Reliability and resourcefulness
  • Ability to work as a team member and independently
  • Overall GPA 3.0 or higher (flexible)

STARTING INFORMATION: Positions are available for spring, summer, and fall.  Starting pay is $11/hour.  Working hours will be 10 hours a week or less, flexible to employee’s schedule after training. Work will be remote through pandemic times, and will be flexible after on-boarding after that.  Students may not hold any other on campus role (unless concurrent within CNS IT) during this time.
