Spring 21 - Faculty

Below is representative feedback received from college Instructors and TAs during spring 21. Thank you for providing your input–we use it to improve your Quest experience! Feel free to search this page for workarounds and status of suggestions offered; if you'd like a more personalized response please write in to questhelp@austin.utexas.edu with what you're looking for.

-To change the order of questions within an assignment, or an assignment between groups. “The drag and drop that worked in the old interface doesn't work as well in the new interface.”  Arrows are coming back for fall 2021, for now, grab gray space to drag and drop.

-Identifying questions from Instructor preview: “the preview does not show the problem names and the slide numbers differ from the problem number, so I spend way too much time trying to figure out which question is which”  Preview as a pdf, where question title and number are listed.

-Use the Quest help pages more efficiently through targeted searches (otherwise, the search goes to all of UT's wikis)

-Pool questions to introduce alternative questions for exams (coming June 2021; if you want it now hop over to our backup server replacing 'quest' in the address line with 'lbtest').

-How can I check if my SSD accommodations have been logged? Right now, on online tests exam dashboard (ADA multiplier header, if timed); coming in June 2021 this will be on your roster.

-“I wish I could add assignments with same settings to multiple classes that I teach at the same time.” You can! Please use the bulk copy settings page.

-How do I print an individual pdf?

-"Will there be any changes to paper based testing systems come the fall term?" Nothing new there, we're eager to get back to bubblesheet testing.

-“Ways to drop or change questions?” You can push the red trash can to delete a question before it is published, or withdraw it once it is in a published assignment.

-“For Late Submits, I'd like to be able to see if/when a student viewed the solutions”--that column is there on the newer code base. (Follow these instructions to get yourself there if you want.)

-“Allow to add files on the announcements.” True, you can’t attach a file directly to an announcement, but by using an html editor to format your announcements (like this one) you can hyperlink to where the file is stored (say, on Box, or on your resources page).

Thanks for the suggestions, we're working on it:

  • Link to find similar questions (when looking at lists of assignment) –(trac 9300)
  • "it would be more convenient if there were an option to erase all groupings, push all students back to the default group, then remake the groupings" - (trac 9542)
  • Bring back “the option of save and preview when editing a slide” (trac 9515)
  • Develop a Quest 101 page for Canvas courses (put into commons). Does this help get started?
  • Fine tuned control of Quest assignments that land in Canvas. There is a way, I'm told...

-"That drat left pull down menu is constantly changing!" True, depending on where you are, different options will surface or be hidden. Know at what level you need to be at to do what you want, and/or ask for help–questhelp@austin.utexas.edu–we can help demystify the every changing left side bar.

Questions/Banks

Please send us specifics of problems you want in! use current questions as templates to modify.

Contribute to the question banks--make your own! We can help if you send us college level material–questhelp@austin.utexas.edu

Student asks

“Students often complain about the tolerance limits of numerical questions” Yes, recommendations to share with students here; aim for 4 decimal places to the right of the . We're trying to reign it in, but it’s a big fall of wax and every discipline needs something different.

“Students would like to see their answers in the test and revise answers during an exam.” Students can both revise answer during exam and see what their indicated response is-they just have to be observant as to where the radial dial is not.
