Value Proposition (from the Project Charter)
The original run of the course garnered significantly more interest and participation that was expected. Over 1200 people signed up from 18 different states around the country. At least 4 other states use the CS Praxis which is modeled on the same teacher competencies assessed in the TExES CS 8-12 CS Certification exam. Over 500 people started the course in the first run, and over 250 completed the course for credit. By getting the course on EdX we can:
Reach a much broader audience.
Assure that the WeTeach_CS program is part of a national conversation about teacher certification.
Help the Center for STEM Ed in discovering it's long term strategy as a fee for services organization.
Provides a launch point for future online courses.
At the Center for STEM Ed we plan to build other online curricula to support CS, Math and Science PD for teachers and administrators in primary and secondary schools. There are tons of courses that teach people how to program. There are none that teach how to teach. We think the program has a lot of leg room.
