Accessing university network from outside (UT VPN)
Accessing university network from outside (UT VPN)
This page contains info for accessing the university network when you're outside the campus, like a work-from-home session where you want to use the group server or search a paper.
Getting Cisco VPN
Similar info has been put down on the Group Server explanation page, and an official UT Wiki for getting the Cisco Anyconnect VPN can be found /wiki/spaces/networking/pages/58336345
Accessing Research Papers
For accessing papers, since the VPN doesn't smartly redirect your network traffic, there are two ways to do it.
- Sign in to the Group Server via Remote Desktop and search papers there. Since the Server is always on the University network, it would always have access to the database and libraries
- On the specific paper's webpage, copy and paste a prefix before the web address and hit enter. This would tell the system to re-access this page through the VPN.
The prefix is: http://ezproxy.lib.utexas.edu/login?url=
