Introduction and Background - Group 10

The intent of this project was to design a mechanism that was able to type a message on a keyboard with a single drive motor. Our mechanism was inspired by the idea of creating a programmable pick-and-place mechanism that was mechanically programmable which would allow for greater reliability for repeated tasks. In addition, we sought to develop an analytical method that could be applied to any desired word or phrase so that the main mechanism would be able to perform any sequence of moves within its workspace. For our specific implementation, we designed the mechanism to type out “Hello” followed by the enter key. When a driveshaft was turned constantly. We decided to use “Hello” as our test phrase as it covered a large portion of the keyboard and paid homage to the trend of printing “Hello World!” when programming.
