As of March 26, 2019, effective immediately, the State of Texas will no longer reimburse Airbnb lodging.

The State of Texas Comptroller’s Office recently added Airbnb to the list of businesses the State is boycotting through the Divestment Statutes List.

Additional details are listed here:  https://comptroller.texas.gov/purchasing/publications/divestment.php

University officials have reviewed State of Texas and University contracting requirements and have determined that Airbnb cannot be used for official University business travel until further notice. This applies to all business related travel (employee, student, official visitors and prospective employees) funded (all funding sources) by the University, effective immediately.

Additional guidance includes:

  • Reimbursement will be allowed for lodging costs with Airbnb for travel dates that have already occurred.
  • Any future reservations will need to be cancelled and reservations will need to be made with another lodging establishment.

The financial impact of the cancellation will be taken into consideration on a case by case basis. Contact: oa.travel@austin.utexas.edu

  • Provide the following information: travel dates, costs of the lodging, date of reservation, and the cancellation policy details.
