Step-by-step installation guide for UT ChE students enrolled in a course utilizing JMP

Once your EID has been submitted by your professor, you will need to complete the following steps:

WINDOWS INSTRUCTIONS

  1. Map a drive to your computer using the following path in the "folder" field  \\austin.utexas.edu\disk\che-share\JMP . The Drive letter doesn't matter.  If you are unsure how to do this,
Read “how to map a drive Windows 7” here or “how to map a drive Windows 8” here. (Mac users scroll down to the bottom of this page.) Make sure to uncheck "reconnect at login" and to check "connect as a different user".
  2. For the username, enter austin\your EID e.g.,
  3. Note: Attempting this from on-campus will work best.  If you are off-campus you must first follow these instructions to make a VPN connection, and then proceed with the instructions. http://www.utexas.edu/its/vpn/
  4. Once you successfully connect, you will see the following:
  5. Open the Windows folder, open the version you would like, right click setup.exe (with the installer icon) install as administrator.  Follow all installation prompts.
  6. After JMP has installed and you start it, you will likely be prompted for a license.  Copy the text file from the LICENSE FILE folder from inside of the folder you ran the setup.exe file from, to your computer (desktop, etc.) and point the installer to the saved file.  Most will want to use the license file ending in Win_x46, but if you are running a 32 bit operating system you will need to use the file ending in WIn_32x64.
  7. You may ignore the "customize your license" message.

Mac instructions:

  1. From the top Finder menu on your mac, select Go>Connect to Server.  Enter the path below:

      2.  When prompted for username enter austin\eid  e.g.,

        3.  Once connected, open the folder of the version you would like. Copy the text license file (not the .DMG file) to your desktop.  Run the .dmg installer file and follow the installation prompts.

        4.  After the software is installed, it will be in your applications folder.  The first time it is started you will see the following message.  Click "open license" and point it to the ***.txt file you saved on your desktop.
