Internal Graduate Admissions
UT Graduate students applying for a further graduate degree
Graduate students applying to continue into a further graduate degree without a break in enrollment do NOT need to submit a new common application through ApplyTexas, but DO need to submit a new supplemental music application in Acceptd. In addition, a short paper form for continuing graduate study is required. This form can be picked up from graduate admissions and academic advising staff.
UT Undergraduate students applying for a graduate degree
Undergraduate students applying for their first graduate degree are treated as new applicants by the UT graduate admissions office, and must submit both a common graduate application through ApplyTexas and a supplemental music application in Acceptd.
UT Graduate student readmission
After a break of any length, a formerly enrolled graduate student who wishes to return to UT must submit a graduate readmission application. When reapplying to end an approved and official leave of absence, the application fee will be waived and readmission will be automatic.Â
UT Graduate student change of major
Graduate students applying to change major codes must submit a graduate change of major application to graduate admissions staff (currently Daniel Seriff, MRH 3.832B). Only the first and fourth pages — the application itself and the transcript request form — of the downloadable PDF file are necessary. Students wishing to change programs within the same major code (e.g., from opera performance to voice pedagogy) do NOT need to submit an application to the UT graduate school, although there may be other procedures required by the Butler School faculty or graduate office.
Prescreening waivers for current or past Butler School students
Currently-enrolled Butler School students applying for a further degree or Artist Diploma in performance areas that require prescreening are automatically waived through prescreening and do not need to submit video.
Former students reapplying after a break in enrollment may or may not be asked to submit new video at the discretion of the relevant faculty. Continuing applicants in composition, conducting, musicology/ethnomusicology, music theory, and music & human learning must submit complete materials as appropriate to each area.
