Discussion

Original agenda shown below in BLACK.

1.       Introductions

2.       Completed work

a.       Accessible doors collection infrastructure

Technology Resources has created data collection infrastructure and setup tools to support identifying accessible entrances.  Primary focus for this endeavor is academic buildings.

3.       Current work

a.       Emergency call boxes

Sue received updated call box information from Kim yesterday. Trecs created online map in ArcGIS Online (AGOL) to allow ITS to maintain their data. ACTION: Trecs to provide Kim and Matt with access to AGOL and training. Sue provided a demonstration of this map at request of Dr. Harkins.  ACTION: Sue will share map with Jimmy as he wants to scrub old call box map. Discussion: publish call box data as separate map or as part of the main map. Christine pointed out there are different approaches for phone vs. PC. Consensus reached to publish as a standalone map. Rhonda wants to ensure we provide visibility via links from CSAS and PD pages. ACTION: Publish emergency call box map as interactive map under heading of other maps.  Add link to map from CSAS & PD pages. Dr. Harkins indicated in “move forward” mode as April 04 anniversary coming soon; need to assess future call box direction as utilization is low and invites input from this group on where they should be placed, etc. Roy Ruiz questioned how relevant are call boxes now that cell phones are so ubiquitous? Dr Harkins indicates that safety apps were assessed and rejected for a variety of reasons and briefly discussed Be Safe campaign. Dr. Harkins is driving safety groups to identify primary, secondary, tertiary pathways and what security features are needed. Question from Faculty Member guest about fire alarm buttons/boxes inside buildings and who that would alert – answer is PD.

Wayfinding maps

Frauke provided the update on wayfinding maps. 20 pedestals to be updated, 3-4 maps around MAI are to be updated the week following this meeting, remaining buildings updated in 4-6 weeks.  Frauke will then develop a plan for maintenance on both the maps and the pedestals which are in poor condition.  Frauke indicated that it will be a problem to find funding. Also need to evaluate placement of pedestals, lighting, etc. Faculty Member asked if pedestal maps and call boxes can be collocated/combined; answer is not currently but worth consideration; further discussion about battery powered call boxes. Jimmy requested a composite of call box and pedestal locations. ACTION: Trecs to create map in AGOL and shared with CSAS group. Sue to distribute graphic to cMap group via Box.

b.      Campus map color scheme

Sue provided preview of proposed map with new 4-color designations and indicated that construction zones need more emphasis; Jimmy said Speedway construction is not accurately represented.  ACTION: Trecs to review and update construction zone geometry and refine how it is visualized on the map.

c.       Clery Report

Sue provided brief summary of Clery Act compliance reporting and indicated that the map would overlay property, facilities, and crime data.  ACTION: Trecs intent is to provide map and data infrastructure that will allow the SMEs/data owners to maintain their data. Clery Report will be published 10/01.

4.       Proposed work

a.       New safety initiatives

This group will need to be involved regarding visualization/publication of relevant data. Dr. Harkins indicates that the endeavor will no longer be referred to as “safe walking path” as that creates the illusion that users will be free from harm when using; prefers primary/secondary/tertiary paths. Sue mentioned that work on Accessible Entrance doors can be repurposed to support for visualization of Celebrated Doors. Objective for Celebrated Doors is to identify primary building access locations after hours. Harkins: need to evaluate efforts such as camera placement.

 5.       Other Business

a.       Preview ArcGIS Online

b.      Map guidelines
