(WIP) Canopy 22-24

Materials used

• 4 ply carbon fiber

• 4 ply fiberglass 

  • Because carbon fiber is conductive, we made part of our canopy out of fiberglass so radio waves could enter and exit through the canopy

• 2 ply kevlar

• Kaneka resin

Step-by-step guide

Mold Prep

1. Sanded fiberglass mold to 400 grit sandpaper with orbital sanders on flat surfaces and hand sanding for curves. We used Bondo to fill in any gaps.

2. We used __ layers of wax and __ layers of frekote

   1. This did NOT work as mold release at all. It was very stuck

   2. We hypothesize that it failed because we did not use a resin topcoat for the canopy

Layup

1. Laid carbon fiber on the sides and fiberglass on the top
