The final version of our product greatly resembled our original redesign after the first prototype. The wire used was fed through the spring that was compressed to allow the spring to stay stable when being compressed/released. By wrapping the wire around the screw in the translating piece and grounding the second end, we were also able to obtain roughly twice the mechanical advantage through a setup that is similar to a single movable pulley.
