Maintenance Windows
The Austin Active Directory has two defined maintenance windows for changes scheduled by the Active Directory team. These maintenance windows allow the changes to be split into two categories: frontend and backend changes.
Frontend Changes
The maintenance window for frontend changes is scheduled for every Tuesday from 1PM to 5PM. This maintenance window is reserved for changes that affect how customers interact with the Austin Active Directory. The following are examples of changes implemented in this window:
Applying or modifying Group Policy that affects more than one University department.
Deploying changes to the Department Tools web applications
Implementing new automated processes such as disabling or removing dormant Active Directory objects
Backend Changes
The maintenance window for backend changes is scheduled for every Friday from 1PM to 5PM. This maintenance window is reserved for changes that affect the infrastructure that hosts the Austin Active Directory. The following are examples of changes implemented in this window:
Promotion and demotion of domain controllers
Updating or extending the schema
