Test user permissions (JA/KPM 1/27/2016)
Moderation/workflow (ST 1/27/2016)
Desired functionality: simple tool for staff (including donor funded projects) to build online exhibits (BJD 1/27/16). Are there any examples out there already that share a training manual of sorts?
Omeka.net vs Omeka.org =one is networked web based (faculty might want to use this). One is for an organization.
Q: how to move an exhibit from .net to a .org instance?
Q: .net is not stable, or because of FERPA, -Can any projects be kept behind an eid wall? alternative is to make it clear in the sylabus that it will be public.
Q: with .org - do we want to take on hosting all student projects?
Q: what is Omeka-s? it is a multi-site - for large organizations (1 instance but each collection could have their own instance). Still in alpha.
Q: Omeka is open source so in constant development. How active is the community and will it stay Open? Plug-in for tablet viewing. VRA core plug-in. George Mason developed the program an dis interested in understanding use cases. Wants to coordinate future development. There is a Google group.
Intended for users without a lot of training.
Use case interests: 1. collections promotion and interpretation 2. collaboration with faculty and others 3. teaching and learning
Q: how to organize this? multiple instances or one instance? how will this affect metadata?
Q: where are the staffing efforts if this becomes a public service? rafia stated that much of the public training is in regards to the metadata
Need: active collaborators
PILOT work:
creating new exhibits, migrating existing exhibits from drupal to omeka, testing neatline functionality (but need a geo server, are there other options?), benson (post custodial, partners can use pedagogical tool to address direct users needs), scholars commons (matt russel teaching in the lc, time is up in the air, joe dobbs is allowing gras to use our collections to build exhibits).
