TEC Badge PD Session
Get names of all attendees.
- Also might want to know level of experience with Canvas.
Do people need to know how to add badgr to their course?
- Could point to the process for this or create a brief "how-to" added to wiki.
- Prob mention the process, but not cover it.
- THIS MIGHT BE A SITUATION WHERE OUR INSTRUCTIONAL TECHNOLOGIST ADDS BADGR TO THE COURSE. HAVE A CENTRAL TEC BADGR ACCOUNT WITH ALL ISSUERS RESIDING THERE. COVERS STAFF ATTRITION CONCERNS.
Who will be the badge issuer? Probably ME if I add Badgr to the course.
- Do attendees NEED a badgr account right now?
- IS IT TIME TO CREATE A TEC BADGR ACCOUNT AND HAVE EVERYONE BECOME AN ISSUER THERE?
- NO! Only first teacher to click "Badges" has the option to select the Issuer. Perhaps I need to do that in advance? But still need to make the point...
- What would this process look like if we scaled it up?
- NO! Only first teacher to click "Badges" has the option to select the Issuer. Perhaps I need to do that in advance? But still need to make the point...
What will be the basic Canvas skills that each attendee needs?
Is there ANY way that I would want to give everybody their own Canvas sandbox class? (I don't think so)
What understanding of the badgr issuer interface will attendees need?
Split into two groups so that have Teacher Role & Student Role.
Create two Canvas classes - half students/ half teachers and flipped in other class.
Students will best work paired w a person with the opposite configuration? So everybody gets to Create a badge and Earn a badge.
Leader Board - shows alias (unless student chooses otherwise)
Badge validation - https://badgecheck.io/
Badge roles
- Issuer
- Instructor/user
- Student/earner
- Consumer (employer?)
THINGS TO TEST

What happens when a teacher NON-first-teacher creates a badge in a class (that has had a first-teacher already define the class-issuer)?
Joe Canvas is given NO opportunity to say anything about "Issuer". Badge created by JC appears in my badgr account under the Issuer that I designated when I first clicked on Badges in this course. |

What happens when a teacher is first-teacher (first to click Badges), but does not have a preexisting badgr account? Joe Canvas is given the option to choose from among the (at this time) two issuers in MY (Ken T) badgr account. HE ALSO HAS THE OPTION TO ADD A NEW ISSUER, WHICH I DID - Joe Canvas, <description>, URL (https://extendedcampus.utexas.edu/), and email (kdtothero@gmail.com). THIS NEW ISSUER PROFILE WAS THEN ADDED TO MY (Ken T) badgr ACCOUNT. It is also now the issuer for this Canvas course. |
