Log into Canvas and Join Courses

  1. Log into extendutexas.instructure.com
  2. Accept invites to both Badging courses
  3. Enter the class where you are a Teacher
  • Learners will need to know what class to log into.
  • Likely will need an individualized handout for all attendees.
  • Learners will be included in TWO courses - one as a teacher, one as a student.
  • I need to remember to have all classes published.

Setting up the Module & Requirements for Completion

  1. Discussion of Canvas Modules, completion criteria, and their role in badging.
  2. Add a page to the module.
  3. Set Viewing the Page as the completion criterion
  4. Publish the Module
  • What's the easiest path to a criterion for module completion?
  • I'm going to go with "View a Page"
  • Need to have the Page created in advance

Creating the Badge

  1. Select "Create New Badge" from the dropdown under Badge.
  2. Fill in Badge Name (whatever), Badge Description (whatever), and Criteria (something about looking at a document)
  3. Can upload a badge image or use the Badge Studio (which is what we'll do). Click on "Use Badge Studio".
  4. With "Shapes" selected, pick a shape & a color.
  5. Click "Graphics". Pick a graphic & a color and resize, reposition, and/or rotate the graphic if you wish.
  6. Click "Save"
  7. Click "Create". Your new badge should appear.

Earning a Badge

  1. Switch to the class where you are a Student.
  2. Select the module that has been assigned to you for completion.
  3. Complete the requirements (open the Page)

In advance

  • Set up an account in badgr
  • Verify your account via email sent to listed email account
  • Get badgr account in advance - INCLUDE IN NOTIFICATION EMAIL
  • email is important, because it is typically the unique identifier for the recipient of a badge
  • set up account in advance to minimize hits on the server
  • How about a mozilla backpack account? Demo that they can more around?
