Glazing Best Practices
Wax the bottom of the work for easier removal of glaze. Allow wax to dry.
Only open one bucket of glaze at a time.
Stir the glaze thoroughly, making sure to pick up any glaze that has settled on the bottom and sides.
Place any tools being used on the lid matching the same glaze.
Re-stir glaze every 5 minutes if using for multiple pieces.
Most glazes require a 2-4 second dip.
Allow glaze to drip off the piece and into the bucket.
Close the glaze bucket and wash all tools used.
Let the glaze dry thoroughly before handling or dipping a second time.
Smooth over any holes or marks with a dry finger.
Do this over a bucket of water.
Use a sponge to remove any remaining glaze on the base of your piece.
Clean up after yourself and place glazed work on the shelves marked “Glazeware.”
Remember to fill out a “kiln firing sheet” and place it tucked under your piece.
