Mentoring Program
The CHE Graduate Program established a peer mentorship program to give new graduate students helpful advice and a support network during their first year in the McKetta Department of Chemical Engineering.
How do I become a mentee?
The Graduate Program Administrator will send out a survey in late spring to get an interest for incoming CHE Grad students to become mentees.
The Mentoring Program is optional for all incoming students, but highly encouraged to participate. Mentees that have been a part of the Mentoring Program have found that building relationships in their first year has been rewarding.
How to become a Mentor?
The Graduate Program Administrator will send out a survey at the end of spring semesters to get an interest for current CHE Grad students to become mentors to the upcoming cohort. Students will receive an email confirmation that they have been selected to be a mentor.
Beginning of summer, mentors will receive their mentee's contact information to start building community.
What are the meetings like?
Super fun! We hold bi-weekly one hour meetings in the fall semester. This is a chance for all mentors and mentees to hang out and share their experiences in our program. The Recruitment Chair will attend 1-2 meetings throughout the fall semester.
Peer-to-Peer Outing Activities
Starting fall 2024, the Mentoring Program will re-introduce peer-to-peer outings where mentors and mentees will have 3 designated outings for the semester. This is a chance for peer-to-peer engagement and have meaningful conversations about being a first year PhD student.
What is the time commitment?
Attendance is not required, but it is highly encouraged to attend as many meetings as possible.
We hold 2-3 summer meetings for all mentors and mentees.
