Digital Printing
There are many tools in the Design Lab’s Digital Zone. The Ricoh and Epson printers are used the most. We also have two 27” iMacs, a large flatbed scanner, a selection of copy paper, and a Roland vinyl cutter with a stocked selection of vinyl rolls.
Access to Digital Printing –> Digital Zone room is only open when staff are here, M–F 10AM–6PM + some evenings when student employees are here.

Monday 10AM–6PM
Tuesday 10AM–6PM **class held 5–8, they have priority over printers and room, be mindful
Wednesday 10AM–8PM
Thursday 10AM–8PM
Friday 10AM–6PM **class held 11–5, they have priority over printers and room, be mindful
*Please note we are opening a second/identical Ricoh machine to the Design Department community during certain windows starting this semester. This schedule is on the 2tuDio page. The machine is in a classroom space so open hours will revolve around class schedules.
DESL Printer Specs:
The Ricoh is best suited for:
multiple copies, drafts, test printing, speedy printing, saturated color, small items, booklets, uncoated matte paper, standard sizes, etc.
Printing Dimensions:
Trays 1 & 2 (marked with vinyl): 8.5x11” and 11x17” 20lb copy paper ONLY
ALL other laser compatible paper goes through the manual feed bypass tray on the right side of the machine
SPECS:
laser printer with CMYK toner cartridges, toner heated up and melded with paper surface, images/text appear shiny, bright and saturated
color and B&W
8x11” and 11x17” sheets mostly
self-duplexing
custom sizes from 3.55” up to 49.60” through the bypass tray
custom paper textures/weights through the bypass tray
can print on range of paper from thin to heavy cardstock, although will not always duplex
The Epson is best suited for:
large format, final copies, hands on duplexing, photographs, glossy paper, unsaturated imagery, custom paper dimensions, heavier paper
special projects that are not compatible with the Ricoh
Printing Dimensions:
from 5” wide up to 17” wide by any length
SPECS:
has TWO black ink modes/types –> Matte Black for paper and Photo Black for glossy surfaces/transparency film
color and B&W
you have to manually flip sheets to print on back
see diagrams on wall for booklet/short edge printing
inkjet printer with several ink cartridges, deposits wet ink onto paper surface, ink seeps into paper and appears matte and muted on uncoated papers
printer likes smooth/coated papers rather than matte
prints on clear transparent film used for screen printing and photopolymer processes
⭐️ Access to 1st Floor ART Computer Labs:
ART 1.213 — Students can access with door code 8AM–12AM Monday–Sunday (everyday) with door code, DESL staff can provide design students with code.
No FOOD, DRINKS, or CHARCOAL allowed in this room.

ART 1.209 & ARTL Print Lab — Students can access computer room to use resources when proctor is present in ARTL Print Lab next door. ARTL large format printing will also be open at this time.

Mon: 4:15PM–6:15PM, Tues: 12PM–4:45PM, Wed: 9AM–11AM, 12PM–2PM, Thurs: 11:30–4:45PM

**Design students have fixed amount of credits to use in ARTL every semester.
