Using Dell Command Update

Overview

Dell Command Update provides an easy way to manually check for and apply Dell Driver and BIOS updates on Dell Windows computers. It is automatically installed on all LAITS-supported Dell Windows systems and can be found in the Windows Start Menu.

Steps to Check for Updates

  1. Launch Dell Command Update from the Windows Start Menu.

  1. Click the "Check" button to start scanning for updates. Note: Internet access is required to check for updates.

  1. Once the scan is complete, Dell Command Update will show the available updates. By default, it will include both required driver and BIOS updates pre-selected.

Important Info: Dell BIOS updates and some driver updates require a restart.

If the "Automatically Restart System" option is selected, the system will restart immediately upon completion. Otherwise, it will prompt you to restart.

If there are no updates available, Dell Command Update will indicate that no updates were found.

Automatic Updates

Dell Command Update is set to automatically check for updates on COLAITS-supported Windows systems and will notify you when updates are waiting for a restart. A Windows Toast Notification will pop up in the lower right corner, indicating that updates are waiting for a restart.
