Study Abroad Proposal Process

Study Abroad Proposal Process

Overview

Purpose: The College of Liberal Arts offers a range of study abroad programs each year that offer unique opportunities to students to enrich their academic, personal, and professional lives. To support the planned offerings of existing programs and provide clear guidance for new program proposals, this page features a process for both existing study abroad programs and new program proposals.

Effective: Starting academic year 2025-26.

Proposal Guidelines and Review

This process begins with a Notification of Intent (NOI) and concludes with the College of Liberal Arts (COLA) determination for approval or non-approval. Both new programs proposals and existing study abroad programs provide an NOI.

Notification of Intent (NOI)

The notification process is for both new program proposals and existing study abroad programs. Additional steps and activities may vary by program proposal.

Please submit your NOI via Forms. Prior to submitting this form, it is expected that you consult with your Department Chair. Upon receipt of your NOI, further instructions or guidance may be provided. The Associate Dean for Academic and Faculty Affairs may also request additional details.

Information included in the Notification of Intent (NOI)

  • Contact information

  • Program Name

  • Program Location(s)

  • Program Term

  • Basic program description and synopsis (150 words or less)

  • Rationale for choosing the course(s) and the proposed location(s)

  • Course Information. Please include (1) title, (2) course number, and (3) if the course abroad has previously been offered

Submission of a NOI does not indicate approval or authorization. It is a preliminary step to inform us of your interest and to help us plan accordingly.
