Webflow

General

  • Webflow is a design and web development tool, e-commerce, CMS, and hosting platform that is primarily no-code but offers low-code and high-code capabilities.
  • The CMS feature of Webflow enables teams to create and manage repeatable content types, such as blog posts or workshop listings. It allows adding specific fields for each item and organizing them into collections for streamlined content publishing.
  • The Designer is where the website is actually designed; this is a helpful guide to explaining the Designer: https://university.webflow.com/lesson/intro-to-the-designer?topics=getting-started
  • Given that this is primarily no-code, minimal coding experience is required; however, this also lends to minimal customizations if only utilizing the pre-built templates and standard features. For more advanced or detailed customization, some HTML, CSS, and JavaScript knowledge would be beneficial.

Subscriptions

  • There are two separate subscriptions that you will need, both of which have a free option - a workplace subscription and a site subscription.
  • Your client could have a free workplace subscription, but the site may need a paid subscription, depending on your website’s needs.
  • The free version of the site does not allow for custom code.
  • If your client will not or cannot share their login to their Webflow workplace, they will need to update their workspace to the core plan ($19/mo) AND purchase at least one freelancer plan ($24/mo) for the student team to use so that the team can access the site; the freelancer plan will allow you to be added to their workspace and can be deleted after the student team is done with the project and the workspace can return to the free plan.
  • Only one person can be logged into the freelancer account at a time
  • You can host and use a custom domain; the domain can be purchased through Webflow, GoDaddy, or Google domains
