Equal Loudness Curves

Frequency of sounds have as much effect on perceived loudness as pressure. More energy is required at lower frequencies to sound equally as loud as midrange and higher frequency sounds. Some film sound systems take this into consideration which have much more capacity in lower frequencies to compensate for this effect. Analog optical sound tracks are limited in their capacity, so all of this must be taken into consideration.
