Article Submission

ARTICLE SUBMISSION REQUIREMENT

Within the first two years of study, students are expected to prepare a first-authored high-quality manuscript for submission to a peer-reviewed scientific journal for publication consideration. The article must be a full-length manuscript written after entry into the Doctoral Program. A brief report, commentary, or editorial opinion piece, or technical report does not satisfy this requirement. Development of the manuscript must be supervised and approved for submission by a member of the SHS faculty (the faculty member may or may not also be an author on the article; this should be negotiated between the student and faculty member prior to starting the manuscript).

The manuscript must be one of the following:

  1. Report of empirical research

  2. A literature review

  3. A conceptual idea

  4. Other writing that is a novel scientific contribution

NOTE: Students must retain documentation of article submission to be approved for the Application for Candidacy.
