Searching Archivematica’s Archival Storage

Searching Archivematica’s Archival Storage

Archivematica’s Archival Storage tab allows the user to search for any AIP that has been processed and indexed. The user can search for any word, number, or phrase.

There are multiple ways to perform a search:

For best and exact matches, encase your terms within quotation marks in order for the word or phrase to be treated as a string (“benson”).

For partial matches, use an asterisk as a wildcard to allow for fuzzy searches (ex: “benson*”).

For specifying a parameter, such as AIP UUID or file extension, or define your search term as a keyword, phrase, or date range.

For using multiple parameters or strings, use boolean connectors OR, AND, or NOT by selecting “Add new” to further define your search. (example: “benson AND 2005”).

For legacy material, you can also search for information stored in the bag-info.txt file of a bag transfer. To do this, choose “Transfer metadata (other)” and, in the next line, identify which field to search in (ie. External-Description, Internal-Sender-Description, Internal-Sender-Identifier).

Select the “Show files?” option if you want to narrow down your search to specific files instead of AIPs. When searching specific files, you will have the option to “view raw”. Clicking this will open the raw JSON stream data that is being used for indexing, which contains the METS data.
