1.) Project Introduction
The Karakuri book allows for individuals to build simple paper mechanisms out of paper templates that are provided in the book with instructions. I built a Panda paper model where I used two Crank C Karakuri models.
The Panda model works by having the two cranks act as the rotational inputs for each Karakuri Crank C fourbar non-offset inversion #1 slider-crank mechanism. As the cranks are spun, the mouth, (attached to the first slider) moves up and down and the Bamboo stick (attached to the second slider) moves side to side. Demo of the final paper panda mechanism is shown below.
