Final Plier Design
- Philip Hua Wang
- Joshua S Briones
The final plier design built off of the first prototype. The bracket (link "c") and plier heads were modified so that the each link would be on the same z plane as the lead screw. This provided a more stable setup in that much less moment would be applied at high stress.
An ergonomic switch was added to the top left of the case which allowed the user to operate open/close action with his right thumb. The setup was encased in 1/4" acrylic and velcro straps were attached to the case so that the user would be able to firmly fix the setup to his forearm.
The motor was powered by a 8 AA batteries and an on/ off switch was added so that the arduino would not continuously drain power.
Final improvements to the design included creation of plier heads with ribbing and rubberized grip, which greatly increased the range of material the unit would grab.
