Upload a video to Vimeo

2) Compress your video.

Right click your video file and select 'Open with > Compressor'

Find the Vimeo Compression droplet located on the desktop or in 'Macintosh HD > Users > Shared'

Drag the Vimeo Compression icon into Compressor and drop it on the clip that you just opened in the upper-left corner of the screen.  'Vimeo Settings' will appear next to your clip like so:

The optimal settings for uploading a video to Vimeo are programmed .  These settings were obtained from:  http://vimeo.com/help/compression

To trim your clip, double click the screen icon under the name of your clip.  It will open in the 'Preview' window on the right.

With the Preview window selected, press the space bar to play your movie, or move the playhead on the timeline below the clip to find an appropriate beginning point for your clip. 

Mark this point an 'In point' by pressing the 'I' button on your keyboard or pressing the button below the timeline.

Find the point that you would like your program to end and mark it with an out point by pressing the 'O' button on your keyboard or the 
symbol.

Back in the upper-left window, rename the file to something standard that makes sense such as  '[Name of your program] [Date]'. 
Make sure to not use any special characters like " & / or periods.

Select 'Submit ...'

You will be prompted for a name for the process you are running.  This is irrelevant.  Press the new 'Submit' button.

The progress of your conversion can be viewed in the 'History' window on the bottom right. 

If you do not see it here, click the 'Batch Monitor' icon.

Wait until your video is compressed. This will take a long time.  A typical 30 minute video will take 2 hours to compress.
Now is a good time to go on a walk, get a sandwich, cup of coffee, and re-acquaint yourself with the outdoors.

Open a web browser such as Firefox or Safari.

Type in the address 'vimeo.com'

Select 'Login'  Type in the account name & password.

If this is a class specific Vimeo account, contact your teacher for login information.

Select 'Upload a Video'

Select 'Choose file to Upload.'

Navigate to the output from Compressor in the previous step, and select 'Open'.

Vimeo will display the progress of the video upload.

While the video is uploading, fill out the Title, Description, and Tags information.

Once your video is uploaded, select 'Add to'.

If your Vimeo account has channels, this is the time to add your recently uploaded video to a channel.  Press the check box next to the appropriate channel.

To change the look and feel of your video, select the 'Embedding' settings.

Use this interface to assign the settings you would like to your video.   Once you have settings that you like, select 'Create a new Preset ...'

If you have done this before, you can assign a Preset by selecting a saved preset.  In this case, we're using the 'Texas Newswatch' settings.

Select 'Go to Video' to review your video.

Select the 'Settings' icon in the upper right.

Select Thumbnail
  and 'Choose file to Upload.'

Select the still image you saved earlier in Final Cut Pro to be your thumbnail. And click 'Open'.

Navigate to the Video you would like to link to within your Vimeo account.

In the navigation bar at the top of the browser window, you will find the web address for your video.  Highlight and copy the numbers. You can easily copy these numbers by selecting 'Edit > Copy' or (Command on a Mac)(Control on a PC) C.

Open a new Window in your browser by selecting 'File > New Window' (Command N) and navigate to your blog.

Select 'Log in'

Enter your login and password.  In this case it is your UT EID and password.

On the left side Navigation column, under 'Posts', select 'Add New'.

Title the post.

Under 'Add Media,' type [vimeo COPY THE NUMBER HERE]

Make sure that 'vimeo' is lowercase and that you copy the number from your Vimeo post here.

Below the vimeo code, type information about your blog post.

Under 'Post Tags' on the right, enter words that would be relevant if someone were to search for your blog post. 

Of special note is the 'Choose from the most used tags in Post Tags' link which will contain previously used tags.   Select the ones relevant to your post.

At the bottom of the page, take special note of the 'Discussion' tab and whether or not you should 'Allow comments on this post.  Typically leaving comments disabled is a good idea.

When you are done, click the 'Publish' button on the right.

Select the 'View Post' link to view your post.

Preview your post to make sure it is correct.
