Managing Clients
Overview
This page provides guidance for managing Configuration Manager (ConfigMgr) clients within the Endpoint Management (EPM) service, including configuration, deployment, patching, and ongoing operational tasks.
After the client is installed on managed devices, administrators use the Configuration Manager console to monitor, configure, and maintain clients at both the device and collection level.
Client management within EPM consists of several core functional areas:
Client Configuration
Configure and maintain client settings that control behavior such as caching, policy intervals, inventory, and update handling.Software Updates and Patching
Manage Windows and third-party patching through:Software update deployments
Automatic Deployment Rules (ADRs)
Patch My PC integrations
These processes ensure devices remain secure and compliant.
Collection-Based Management
Use device collections to target deployments, apply settings, and organize clients for administrative control.Maintenance Windows and Business Hours
Control when deployments and restarts occur to balance system compliance with user impact.Monitoring and Operational Tasks
Perform routine administration tasks such as:Deployment monitoring
Client health validation
Troubleshooting and remediation
Configuration Manager provides centralized capabilities to deploy software, enforce policy, collect inventory, monitor client health, and remediate issues, enabling consistent management of devices across the environment.
