Apps and Connectors
Apps and connectors let ChatGPT and Claude connect to external services you already use, such as email, calendars, files, chats, repositories, Jira, and Confluence.
This page explains how to enable or connect an app in ChatGPT and a connector in Claude. For full product details, use the official documentation linked below.
To meet university security, privacy, and procurement requirements, ET AI Studio can only enable apps and connectors that are covered by an active university contract.

Before You Connect
Question | Why it matters |
|---|---|
Is this your UT-approved account? | Personal accounts may not have the same University protections. |
What can the app or connector read? | It may access email, calendar events, files, chats, repositories, tickets, or pages. |
Can it take actions? | Some apps or connectors can create, update, send, delete, or change information. |
Is the data approved for this tool? | Tool access does not automatically mean the data type is approved. |
Do you still need the connection? | Disconnect apps or connectors that are no longer needed. |
Data Use And Acceptable Use
Review [Responsible Use](./05-responsible-use.md) before connecting AI tools to University systems or data.
Quick reminders:
Do not connect personal accounts to work with controlled or confidential University data.
Use the least access needed for the task.
Review approval prompts carefully before allowing actions that send, edit, delete, share, or move information.
For unclear data classifications, contact ISO at security@utexas.edu.
FAQ
Are ChatGPT connectors and ChatGPT apps the same thing?
OpenAI now uses apps as the broader term. Existing connector-style functionality still exists, but you may see it described as apps with file search, deep research, sync, or other capabilities.
Are Claude connectors the same as Claude plugins?
No. Connectors connect Claude to services. Plugins can bundle skills, connectors, and other workflow pieces together. Review the official Claude directory and plugin documentation for current details.
Can I connect any app or connector I want?
Not always. Availability can depend on plan, geography, workspace settings, organization policy, and admin approval.
Can apps or connectors change information in another system?
Some can. Review requested permissions and approval prompts carefully, especially for actions that send, edit, delete, share, or move information.
