The UT AI Studio Public Wiki helps University of Texas at Austin students, faculty, and staff understand when to use ChatGPT or Claude, where to find official product instructions, and what to consider before sharing University information with an AI tool.
This wiki is a starting point. Product features, limits, and interfaces change frequently, so detailed instructions live on official OpenAI, Anthropic, and UT support pages.

To Login
Go to https://chatgpt.com/auth/login or https://claude.ai .
Enter your full UT EID email address in the email field, using the format
yourEID@eid.utexas.edu.Continue through the Microsoft login page.
Enter your UT EID credentials on the University of Texas at Austin authentication page.
Complete Duo multi-factor authentication if prompted.
After authentication, you should be redirected into the UT Austin ChatGPT or Claude environment.
If you land in a personal account, sign out, open a private or incognito browser window, and try again with your UT EID email address.
Learn with OpenAI Academy
OpenAI Academy is a free learning hub from OpenAI that provides guides, tutorials, videos, and events to help users build practical AI skills. It covers topics such as AI fundamentals, using ChatGPT effectively, prompt writing, working with files and data, and building AI-supported workflows.
Go to https://academy.openai.com/ .
Select Sign in with ChatGPT.
If prompted, sign in using your UT Austin ChatGPT account with your EID email address:

Anthropic Academy is Anthropic’s free learning hub for Claude, offering courses, guides, tutorials, and best practices to help users build practical AI skills. It covers topics such as Claude basics, prompt writing, Claude Code, API development, AI Fluency, and using Claude effectively in work or development workflows.

AI output may be incomplete, outdated, biased, fabricated, or inappropriate for the context. Review the final result before relying on it, sharing it, publishing it, submitting it, or using it for a decision.
Important data handling notes:
Do not paste sensitive University information unless the use is approved.
Do not use personal AI accounts for controlled or confidential University data.
Do not use AI tools to bypass course rules, professional obligations, or University policy.

University-contracted AI environments prevent University data from being used for model training or for purposes outside the contracted service.
FAQ
Should I start with ChatGPT or Claude?
Start with the task. ChatGPT may be a strong starting point for broad assistance, data analysis, images, GPTs, apps, search, and Codex. Claude may be a strong starting point for long documents, writing, projects, artifacts, skills, research, CoWork, and Claude Code.
Can I use AI for University work?
AI may be useful for many University-related tasks, but you must follow UT policy, data guidance, course rules, and unit expectations.
Can students use AI for coursework?
Students should follow course and instructor expectations. When in doubt, ask the instructor before using AI on an assignment.
