First Login
Go to https://chatgpt.com/auth/login or https://claude.ai .
Enter your full UT EID email address in the email field, using the format
yourEID@eid.utexas.edu.Continue through the Microsoft login page.
Enter your UT EID credentials on the University of Texas at Austin authentication page.
Complete Duo multi-factor authentication if prompted.
After authentication, you should be redirected into the UT Austin ChatGPT or Claude environment.
If you land in a personal account, sign out, open a private or incognito browser window, and try again with your UT EID email address.

Claude usage has two separate limits: a rolling 5-hour message limit and a weekly usage allowance. The message limit refreshes every 5 hours, while the dollar-based allowance resets weekly. A user can hit the 5-hour limit even if weekly allowance remains, or use a large share of weekly allowance during heavy activity.
For Standard, HIPAA, and Premium, the published message and dollar figures are Anthropic’s contractual usage baseline; actual usable limits are higher. Anthropic has confirmed that enforced Standard and Premium capacity will not decrease in the new tenant and will match current tenant capacity.
Please note Consumer-grade Anthropic plans do not map 1:1 to Claude for Education, so some values, features, and limits may differ.

FAQ
Is University-provided access the same as a personal account?
No. University-provided environments may have different contracts, data protections, features, account settings, and support paths than personal accounts.
Who gets free access?
Current UT Austin students, faculty, and staff have free baseline access to ChatGPT EDU and Claude EDU Free.
Do I need API access to use ChatGPT or Claude in the browser?
No. API access is separate from chat access. Request API access only if a project, integration, automation, or tool needs an API key.
