Words of Note Meeting

August 12, 2014                               Attending: Page, James, Dan, Clara and Ann

Overall discussion on status of WON articles, copy and photos.  Some text will be ready to send to Nathan Russell by next week (see list below).  James is managing a wiki to help keep us on track.  MEP would like to mail to all friends & alumni and get into the mail stream end of September/early October.   We think we can pull together needed components by end of August for Nathan to create final file.  Agreed to meet Thursday, 13th at 2:30 with any additional information.

Page- MRH Building/Classroom update article – PAGE has copy from Frank, she will edit and complete by next week, Aug. 20

Dan and James - have been compiling/editing Alumni Notes (70 plus submissions) and Faculty Note (20 plus submissions).  Alumni have submitted photos to complement their submissions.

Page and Ann - Long Horn Band Wind Ensemble Tour will have it’s own article.  Page connected with grad student Mark Sisnowchik and asked him to write short piece by next week Aug. 20th.  Will complement article with photos from the tour (Heather Halstead may have a link? Ann will ask)

Clara and Ann - Menuhin Update article, agree it should be photo heavy and BSOM centric.   Suggestions included representing collaborative piano, master classes, UTSO, Miro, Bian.  Should cover a 2 page spread.

Page and Clara – will work on Centennial advertisement copy

Dan – will select old vs. new photos for a centennial photo spread.  Will be placed next to the Centennial Advert in the spread.

BSOM News Section – James and Clara

·      James – MOOC; Some text is started.  Completed or help from Hellmer needed?

·      James – will ask Dr. Hatton for article on Theory

·      Clara – will work on Centennial photos of Kevin Puts

Retiring Faculty/Staff/New Faculty – Ann and Kevin

Student Achievements – after discussion, it was agreed that external achievements that bring pride to BSOM, and that we are aware of!, will be placed in the BSOM News Section.  NOTE:  the process for collecting these student awards is broken.  Needs to be communicated across the student/faculty body to create a fair and equitable collection and evaluation of internal vs. external achievements.

Calendar of Events will be placed on the back cover.  May already have this content gathered as part of the BSOM fall brochure.  Ann will explore.
