City of Austin Permits and Regulations

The City of Austin requires a permit to film on or commercially use a public property like a road, sidewalk or park.

The Austin Film Commission will not refer you to shooting locations without confirmation that you have at least a $500 location budget.

Permits are generally not required to use a private property for filming. If you think you might need a permit, reach out to the Student Production Coordinator.

If you have a weapon on private property in full view of the public the weapon must be signed off by the Austin Police Department.

All pyrotechnic effects must be permitted by the Austin Fire Department.
