RDG - Remmina Guide for Linux - Ubuntu

General Settings and Introduction

DUO

RDG uses DUO for MFA - Passcodes and Text Messages (SMS) are not a supported method with RDG.

 

This guide was created and tested on Ubuntu 19.10 using the Remmina package.

Other RDP packages exist for Ubuntu and other distros, if you are not using Remmina the settings below can help set up the client you are using. However, the client must support RDP gateways. 

  • Remote Desktop Gateway: rdg.austin.utexas.edu

  • Username: eid or austin\eid (if the client does not have a field for domain)

  • Password: eid password

  • Domain: austin

Remmina Guide

Create a new connection profile by clicking on this icon: 

  1. Give the profile a name and fill in the following settings in the Basic tab:

    1. Name: This can be anything you would like. 

    2. Protocol: RDP - Remote Desktop Protocol

    3. Server: name-of-your-resource.austin.utexas.edu (or IP address)

    4. Username: Your eid

    5. Password: Your eid password

    6. Domain: austin

    7. Others: Please configure this as needed for user experience.



  2. On the Advanced tab:

    1. Remote Desktop Gateway server: rdg.austin.utexas.edu

    2. Remote Desktop Gateway username: Your eid

    3. Remote Desktop Gateway password: Your eid password

    4. Remote Desktop Gateway domain: austin



  3. Click on Save and Connect to connect to your resource. 



  4. You will receive a Duo prompt from Remote Desktop Gateway, accept this to continue to your remote session.
