Applying to Candidacy

The Chemical Engineering Candidacy Examination + Rubric Form must be completed through DocuSign.

Departmental forms can be found at: Forms

Once students complete their oral exam and complete the DocuSign form, they can apply for doctoral candidacy online.

Candidacy applications will not be approved by the graduate advisor until the Oral Examination Form and an Annual Report have been received for the academic year.

Once the candidacy application is approved by the Graduate School, the student will be admitted to candidacy.

  • Students must take -99W every semester after advancing to candidacy, including the semester they graduate

  • Students can take 3, 6, or 9 hours of dissertation depending on how many credit hours they need

  • Students do not need to take research credit hours once they are in candidacy

If students are admitted to candidacy by the Graduate School before the mid-semester deadline (the graduate coordinator or the Graduate School can advise what the deadline is each semester) and plan to graduate within two semesters, then students can petition to add the -99W course that same semester. Otherwise, they should register for it in the next semester.
