Coursework Requirement
PhD students are required to take, at a minimum, 18 hours of formal courses (i.e., lecture style or organized laboratory instruction) as outlined below:
- Three core courses (9 hours):
- Graduate Thermodynamics (CHE387K) - 1st fall semester
- Graduate Kinetics (CHE391J) - 1st fall semester
- Fluid Flow and Heat Transfer - also known as Graduate Transport (CHE381N) - 1st spring semester
- Three additional courses (9 hours) in any field or major. Only coursework with an overall GPA of 3.0 or higher will be counted towards this requirement. Upper-division undergraduate formal courses outside of Chemical Engineering will be counted toward this requirement.
