Remote access to a Mac on wired General Networks

Overview
These instructions cover setting up a wired, on-campus MacOS device for remote access when operating on the university General Networks. Remote access to a macOS computer is only possible from other macOS computers.
Requirements
On-campus macOS computer connected to the wired General Networks and configured with the Unprotected network profile
Remote macOS computer with up-to-date Cisco Secure Client VPN
Configure Remote Access
Go to network.utexas.edu
If you have already registered your device for wired General Networks use, please change the network profile from Protected to Unprotected. For more information on these profiles, please refer to the ITS General Networks documentation here.
If you have not yet registered your device for wired General Networks, the network.utexas.edu tool is self-service, provided you have your device’s wired MAC address and name. If you encounter an error or would like assistance with the registration process, please give us a call at 512-471-5000, start a chat at chat.laits.utexas.edu or feel free to drop by one of our on campus helpdesks for in person support.
Start Remote Session
Open a Finder window
Under Favorites select ‘Applications’ then ‘Utilities’
Locate and launch Screen Sharing.app
Launch Screen Sharing from Finder>Applications>UtilitiesFrom the Screen Sharing application, click the '+' to add a new connection.
Enter the fully qualified domain name of the target computer you are trying to access on campus. The address should be in the form a1b2c3d4e5f6.dynamic.utexas.edu. You can check your computer’s MAC using the network.utexas.edu registration tool or by giving us a call if you are not certain.
Enter device fully qualified domain name in the Screen Sharing applicationClick connect to start a session
Authenticate when prompted with your account username and password
