Specify Data tab- frequently used forms

Here is where you can learn about the frequently used forms associated with the data tab.


Collection Object:

  • all of the information about a specimen in one place. Stand alone data forms are embedded into the Collection Object form.

 Collecting Information:

  • information about the locality, Geological age, Lithostratagraphy and the Collectors are all compressed into a single form. All of this information is tied to the Field Number, which is used as an index of sort by which the other information gets knitted into a single form, and eventually a single line in the Collection Object form.

Agent

  • the 'people form. Also recorded here are institutions and certain lab classes on campus. Information in the agent table is called on in many places throughout the various forms. 

Field Notebook:

  • field trip dates, location details, and ties to specific specimens found, are recorded here. Scans of written field notebooks are also attached here. 

Reference Works:

  • titles of papers that reference a specimen or specimens held by NPL. Journal is an embedded subform in this form. 

Specimen Prep:

  • any mechanical or chemical act used to remove part of the specimen, such as freeing a fossil from the surrounding matrix or sectioning it for study.

Conservation:

  • actions taken to ensure long term care of specimens. This can be in the form of repairing broken fossils or torn labels, and also annual tasks like changing silica gel.
