Instructions for Classroom Technology in Winship

Audio-Visual Classroom Instructional Technology is installed in all classroom spaces in Winship, as well as on the Lab Theatre stage. Step-by-step instructions are installed in each space for basic use. While almost every room functions uniquely, the guiding principle is that personal devices can be connected to projectors and monitors with an HDMI cable and proper adapters. Some rooms also support wireless presentation.

1.108:

  1. Touch the Crestron screen on the instructor’s table to awaken it.

  2. Select the arrow (^) in the bottom center of the screen.

  3. Select “Present”.

  4. Four options appear: Mac Mini, AirMedia, Wolfvision Doc Cam, and Laptop.

    1. Mac Mini – present using the computer, monitor, keyboard, and mouse installed in the classroom. UT EID login required. Content is best accessed online or through cloud-sharing platforms. (UT box, Google Drive, etc.) Projected display will mirror the content on the installed monitor.

    2. AirMedia – present wirelessly using an external laptop or other device. Follow the prompts shown on the installed monitor to connect to an IP address using a web browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.) or through Screen Mirroring on an Apple device. AirMedia app download required. Content can be presented in mirrored or extended displays, depending on device settings.

    3. Wolfvision Doc Cam - present using the document camera installed on the podium. Turn on with the red power button in the lower left of the device.

    4. Laptop - present using a wired connection to an external laptop or other device. Plug the HDMI cable into a laptop or other device. Most rooms will also have an adapter to convert HDMI to USB-C for most systems, notably MacBooks which lack an HDMI port. Content can be presented in mirrored or extended displays, depending on device settings.

  5. When finished, select “Stop” below your chosen source option on the Crestron screen.

  6. Turn the projector off using the power button in the bottom left of the Crestron screen, followed by selecting “Shut Down”.

1.134:

  1. Touch the Crestron screen on the instructor’s podium to awaken it.

  2. Select the power button in the bottom left of the Crestron screen.

  3. Select “No Source” to prompt the screen to display the following options: Laptop VGA, Doc Cam, Mac Mini, Laptop HDMI, and HDMI Input.

    1. Laptop VGA – present using a wired connection to an external laptop. Plug a VGA cable into the podium (at the top, just left of center) and then into a laptop. Please note – there is NOT a VGA cable installed in the classroom.

    2. Doc Cam – present using the document camera installed on the podium. Raise the arm and place documents on the white square area to project.

    3. Mac Mini – present using the computer, monitor, keyboard, and mouse installed in the classroom. UT EID login required. Content is best accessed online or through cloud-sharing platforms. (UT box, Google Drive, etc.) Projected display will mirror the content on the installed monitor.

    4. Laptop HDMI – present using a wired connection to an external laptop. Plug the HDMI cable into a laptop. Most rooms will also have an adapter to convert HDMI to USB-C for most systems, notably MacBooks which lack an HDMI port. Content can be presented in mirrored or extended displays, depending on device settings.

    5. HDMI Input – present using a wired connection to any other device. Plug the HDMI cable into the device. Most rooms will also have an adapter to convert HDMI to USB-C for most systems. Content can be presented in mirrored or extended displays, depending on device settings.

  4. When finished, turn the projector off using the power button in the bottom left of the Crestron screen, followed by selecting “Shut Down”.

1.148 and 1.164:

  1. Touch the Crestron screen on the instructor’s table to awaken it.

  5. When finished, select “Stop” below your chosen source option on the Crestron screen.

  6. Turn the projector off using the power button in the bottom left of the Crestron screen, followed by selecting “Shut Down”.

2.112:

  1. Touch “Press Here To Begin Presentation” on the Crestron screen on the instructor’s podium to awaken the system.

  2. Three options appear: Display Mac, Display HDMI, and Display AirMedia.

    1. Display Mac – present using the computer, monitor, keyboard, and mouse installed in the classroom. UT EID login required. Content is best accessed online or through cloud-sharing platforms. (UT box, Google Drive, etc.) Projected display will mirror the content on the installed monitor.

    2. Display HDMI – present using a wired connection to an external laptop or other device. Plug the HDMI cable into a laptop or other device. Most rooms will also have an adapter to convert HDMI to USB-C for most systems, notably MacBooks which lack an HDMI port. Content can be presented in mirrored or extended displays, depending on device settings.

    3. Display AirMedia – present wirelessly using an external laptop or other device. Follow the prompts shown on the installed monitor to connect to an IP address using a web browser (Chrome, Safari, etc.) or through Screen Mirroring on an Apple device. AirMedia app download required. Content can be presented in mirrored or extended displays, depending on device settings.

  3. Selecting “Blank Display” on the Crestron screen will turn off the projection, while still allowing the presentation to be set up on the previously selected display option. (This hides the display from students, for example.)

  4. When finished, select “End” in the bottom left of the Crestron screen, followed by selecting “Yes” to turn off the projector and raise the screen.

2.116:

  1. Turn on the projector system with the remote. There are two remotes in the A/V cabinet which both work, but the remote with the BLUE power button is preferable to use.

  2. Plug the HDMI cable into a laptop or other device. Most rooms will also have an adapter to convert HDMI to USB-C for most systems, notably MacBooks which lack an HDMI port.

  3. If necessary, select the proper input. The input should be connected into the input selected by the “HDMI” button on the remote.

  4. Settings on personal devices need to be set to “EPSON PJ” for both display and audio. Content can be presented in mirrored or extended displays, depending on device settings.

  5. Selecting “A/V Mute” on the remote will turn off the projection, while still playing audio.

  6. Audio volume can be controlled by the remote or the controls in the A/V cabinet. Device audio settings will not affect the output from the classroom system.

  7. When finished, turn off the projector by pressing the power button twice to confirm. Audio may continue to play until the HDMI cable is disconnected.

2.180:

  1. Roll the TV cart into place and ensure that it is plugged into an extension cord leading to a wall outlet.

  2. Turn the TV on. If the remote is not working, the power button is behind the right side of the screen.

  3. Select the proper input. The HDMI cable to use with an external device should be connected to HDMI 2, but the ports are on the left side of the screen if adjustments need to be made. The input selection button is also behind the right side of the screen, or the top center of the remote.

  4. Plug the HDMI cable into a laptop or other device. Most rooms will also have an adapter to convert HDMI to USB-C for most systems, notably MacBooks which lack an HDMI port. Content can be presented in mirrored or extended displays, depending on device settings.

  5. Content can also be played with the Blu-ray player connected to HDMI 1.

  6. When finished, turn the TV power off via the remote or button behind the right side of the screen.
