Uploading to Unix Time Share

  1. Ask IT professionals (Dilshad and Robin) to create a folder named as the new course abbreviation (e.g., "s2" for Step 2: Inquiry-Based Lesson Design).                            NOTE: "abc" is used as an example of a course abbreviation in this document.
  2. Logging onto Unix Time Share account
    1. Launch Fetch on you computer*
    2. Enter the following information in the New Connection window and click Connect:
      1. Hostname: uts.cc.utexas.edu
      2. Username: your username (not necessarily your UTEID)
      3. Connect Using: SFTP
      4. Initial folder: /export/httpd/data/uteach-institute
      5. Port: 22
  3. Open "courses" folder (double-click on it).
  4. Find the new course folder (abc) and open (double-click) it.
  5. There should be a document named ".htaccess" in the folder. Do NOT delete this document.
  6. Open "support_files" folder.
  7. If the folder is not there, you can create this folder:
    1. right click on the window and choose New Folder OR click on the "New Folder" Icon on top.
    2. enter the name of the folder: support_files
    3. NOTE: USE ALL LOWER-CASES TO NAME ANY SUPPORT FILE OR FOLDERS IN UNIX.
    4. IMPORTANT: If you created the folder, you have to make sure that you give UTIS group "write" permissions.
      1. Right click on the folder and choose "Get Info"  OR find in on top.
      2. Check mark to give "Write" permission to "Group: utis" and choose "Apply"                                                                                                 NOTE: Do NOT give "write" permission to "Others"
  8. Upload support files to support_files folder:
    1. open (double-click) "support_files" folder
    2. Click on the "Put" button (icon with the world map and a green arrow into it) on the toolbar
    3. Navigate the support_files folder on your computer through the pop-up window.
    4. Select all support files you want to upload ("command(apple) + a" to select all of them)
    5. Click "Put" at the bottom right of the window.
  9. Upload zip file for the course:
    1. Compress the course folder on your computer. It's name should be "abc.zip" This zip file has to have the most up to date versions of every document in it including Prep, Intro, and Topic pages.
    2. Navigate the course folder in Unix. Check the pathway by clicking on the "Path" button on the toolbar: you should see the course name (abc) on the top. (/export/httpd/data/uteach-institute/courses/abc)
    3. Click on the "Put" button on the toolbar. (see Step 8.b)
    4. Navigate to "abc.zip" on your computer in the pop-up window.
    5. Click "Put" at the bottom right of the pop-up window (see Step 8.e)
