Sierra ILS

Sierra ILS

Checking Out Materials

  • Scan user’s ID
  • Check for any holds available
  • Scan items to check out and inform user of due date
  • Let them know they can renew items online

Note: ILS books are checked out through a separate system, so if a patron comes to the desk and says they have a book to pick up and it doesn’t show in Sierra, ask them if they got it through ILS. It’s also a good idea to check for any ILS books when you’re retrieving their holds, and check for holds when you’re retrieving ILS books for a patron.

Quick Tips and shortcuts

    • Function –> Search/Holds
    • Change dropdown from title to barcode
    • Scan barcode to see if the book is checked out or not

    • Scan UTID
    • Navigate to holds
    • You will be able to see all items the user has put on hold and let them know the status of each hold
  • Checked-Out Items
    • You will only be able to see what items are checked out by a user if you are logged in as a supervisor
    • Otherwise, you can see how many books the user has checked out, but not what individual itemms
    • If user wants to know which items they still have out and you aren't logged in as a supervisor, have them login to their account through the library website and show them how to check what items they have checked out.
  • If a user wants a receipt to show that they have returned books, scan in all of the items and then click the Print icon in the top right corner of the window before closing out

Note: We don't renew books through Sierra. If a user wants to renew an item at the desk, you can either have them log into their account through the library website and walk them through the renewal process online, or check in through Sierra and check item back out to them.
