HOW TO CONFIGURE MOBILE DEVICES

 Configure Android Phone
 Built In Android App

Please note that due to the customized nature of Android, there isn't a list of steps that would apply equally to all versions of Android OS. We have provided the steps that we believe will cover most people. These instructions are for configuring your Android phone for Office 365 using an ActiveSync connection. This will allow you to access your Office 365 email, as well as synchronize your Android contacts and calendar with your Office 365 contacts and calendar.

Step 1: Remove Your Old Exchange Account

  1. In the System Settings, scroll down to Accounts and select the entry for Exchange. It may be listed as Work or Corporate.

  2. Select your former Exchange account, then select Remove account at the bottom of the menu. Remove account may be found in the menu options on this screen ( shown as 3 dots or 3 lines in the top right). Tap OK to confirm.

Step 2: Add Your New Office 365 Account

Please note that you can use your preferred email app as long as it supports Exchange ActiveSync. The Gmail app is the most common and works great, but some phone manufacturers such as Samsung include their own separate 'Email' app in addition to Gmail.

Autodiscover Method:

  1. In System Settings, under Accounts, select +Add Account.
  2. Select the option for Exchange. It may be listed as Work or Corporate.
  3. Configure your Exchange account in the provided fields:
  4. Your Android phone will try to set up your email account automatically. If it doesn't, proceed to the manual method (starting with step 4)

Manual Method:

  1. In System Settings, under Accounts, select +Add Account.
  2. Select the option for Exchange. It may be listed as Work or Corporate.
  3. Configure your Exchange account in the provided fields.
  4. Select Next. Your Android will attempt to connect to the UT Austin Office 365 Exchange server, automatically filling in information on the next screen that will need to be corrected. Match the settings below.
  5. Client Certificate should be None.
  6. Port should auto-populate and will either be 443 or 993.
  7. Enable/check the option for this server requires an encrypted SSL connection.
    • Some may see 'Security Type' and have a drop down menu. Select SSL/TLS or just SSL if that's your only option.
  8. Tap Next and your phone will attempt to authenticate and add the account.
  9. You may be prompted with a "Remote Security Administrator" message to grant the server the ability to remotely manage some security features of your phone.
    • You will have to agree/click OK to continue setting up email on your phone.
    • You will need to contact the ITS Help Desk (not SWAT) if you would like to know what these security features are, if any.
  10. If prompted, choose which mailbox items you would like to synchronize, then select Done.
    • Some users will have to go back into the email account settings after setup to change desired settings. These settings would include signature, how much mail and which folders to sync to phone, how frequently to receive email (push, 15 minutes, etc), and notifications.
  11. Finally, you may be prompted to choose a name for the account you have just added which by default is your email address.
  12. You're DONE! Open your email app and let it start syncing you email. You may have to swipe down from the top to force a sync.

Note: If you experience problems, try this twice, in case there was a mistype. If the auto-discover or manual method does not work, try rebooting the device. You can also use the steps in the links below provided by Microsoft and Google (with our custom settings above).
