The motivation for this project came from needing a shoe rack at home. We wanted the shoe rack shelves to angle as well as slide out for easy access. Thinking of these two criteria in isolation, i.e. angling as separate from sliding, gave a clear picture of the linkage type and configuration we needed to make that happen. We wanted the mechanism to be user-friendly and simple. Therefore, we designed it so the shelves would come out by turning an input crank about 34 degrees.
