UTeach Fine Arts Appeal Process
Students must apply for admission to the Professional Development Sequence once prerequisite coursework is complete. Once admitted, students are required to maintain a GPA of 3.0 and meet the grade requirement of a “B” in PDS and program-specific coursework. Students who earn a B- or below may be required to retake the course.
In rare instances, UTeach Fine Arts will consider granting exceptions to these policies. If you believe your situation may warrant consideration for an exception (see criteria listed below), please initiate a meeting with your Area Coordinator. At that meeting, the Area Coordinator will provide you with access to the UTeach Fine Arts Appeal form; please do not submit an appeal without first discussing your situation with your faculty Area Coordinator.
Terms for Appeals
Appeals should be made for unavoidable circumstances. Appeals should not be made due to inadequate academic preparation and performance.
All appeal forms are reviewed by area faculty before being reviewed by the Director of UTeach Fine Arts.
Submitting an appeal does not guarantee its approval. Appeal decisions are subject to faculty and Director approval.
Appropriate documentation must be provided with the appeal form. Effective appeals for grades, GPA, and PDS application decisions are those in which students explain their situation and any extenuating circumstances, take responsibility for the situation, and detail a clear plan for how things will be different in the future, including steps already taken and sources of support. Explain the academic trajectory and lay out a plan for success going forward. Failure to provide appropriate documentation may delay a decision.
