_Purging Paged Content
Purging Books, Issues, and Publications
How to purge:
Aside from Pages, other Paged Content objects (Books, Issues, Publications) should be purged using the "Parent PID to recursively delete PID and all child PIDs" option.
Considerations when a Book, Issue, or Publication is purged:
- Like collections, if a Book/Issue/Publication is purged without using this option, it will leave child objects (pages) orphaned.
- Like collections, recursively purging more than one Book/Issue/Publication at once is not currently supported.
- On the recursive purge confirmation page, the parent PID (Book, Issue, or Publication) will be listed along with all child PIDs (Pages, or, in the case of Publications, Issues and Pages).
Purging Pages
How to purge:
Individual Pages may be deleted using the "Single PID to delete" or "List of PIDs to delete" options on the purge utility page.
Considerations when page(s) are purged:
- It WILL automatically update the viewer at the parent book/issue level.
- It will NOT impact remaining page numbers nor the sequence in which remaining pages are presented. For example, given pages 1, 2, 3, if page 2 is purged, page 3 will remain page number 3 and will appear sequentially after page 1.
- It will NOT automatically regenerate a PDF at the parent book/issue level. The PDF datastream may be regenerated by user initiation through the Manage tab in the GUI at the parent book/issue level.
- If the page purged was the first page (and thus, was being used as the default thumbnail for the parent book/issue), it will NOT automatically regenerate a new thumbnail. The thumbnail datastream may be regenerated by user initiation through the Manage tab in the GUI at the parent book/issue level.
- There is no need to purge pages and replace them if the desired effect is only to change the sequence in which they are presented. Reordering page sequence can be accomplished through the Manage tab in the GUI at the parent book/issue level. (Note: the two columns are listed for convenience; e.g., moving page 200 to 2 doesn't require you to drag it all the way up the same column.)
