Aspen V14 Installation

Step-by-step installation guide for UT ChE students enrolled in a course utilizing Aspen

NOTE: UTGUEST AND EDUROAM WIFI WILL NOT WORK if connecting from campus; you must be connected to the UTEXAS WIFI.  If you are off campus, you must first make a VPN connection (vpn.utexas.edu).


Installing Aspen v14

 

  1. First mount the Aspen v14 installation folder:

    1. Click the Start Menu and open File Explorer

    2. Find "This PC" on the left-side menu, right-click on it and select "map network drive." Enter the following path in the "folder" field  \\austin.utexas.edu\disk\che-share\aspenONE\V14 . The Drive letter doesn't matter.  Make sure to uncheck "reconnect at login" and to check "connect using different credentials".

  2.  For the username, enter austin\your EID  e.g.,

  3. Note: Attempting this from on-campus will work best.  If you are off-campus you must first follow these instructions to make a VPN connection, and then proceed with the instructions. Connecting to the UT VPN Service

  4. Once you successfully connect you will see the following files and folders:

  1. right click Setup > run as administrator > select Install AspenONE products.

  2. Uncheck Aspen OptiPlant, expand Server Products and Tools, and then uncheck all of the options under Server Tools AND Aspen Knowledge In-Context Service. Aspen AI Model Builder Tools will remain greyed out, which is fine. Leave everything else selected. Your product selection screen should look like this:

  1. Add chee-aspentech.austin.utexas.edu as the license server > ...install now. The installation can take a while, depending on the speed of your computer. Eventually you should see the progress bar:

  1. Click Finish and Reboot your computer when prompted.

  2. IMPORTANT: Before running Aspen Plus you will need to copy a file to your computer that will connect Aspen to our CHE SQL database server. Click here to download the file called config.aem:

  3. Copy the config.aem file to C:\ProgramData\AspenTech\APED V14.0. The programdata folder might be hidden on your computer, so just type the above path into the file explorer navigation bar.

  4. Once you have copied that file to the folder on your computer, you can now launch Aspen Plus, which can be found in the Start Menu.

 

Reminder: If you are off-campus, or on any wireless network other than “utexas”, you will first need to connect to the UT VPN before running Aspen, or else it will fail with errors.
