Windows Device Update & Compliance Guidance

If you are using a UT-managed computer, please review the information below and take any required action.

  1. Ensure Devices Remain Powered On
To maintain compliance and receive required updates, devices must be powered on and connected to the internet on a regular basis. Endpoint management tools deploy updates automatically when devices are available.

  2. Patching and Restart Requirements
Security patches are deployed automatically through endpoint management tools.

  • Users may be prompted to reboot their device to complete patch installation.

  • It is important to restart promptly when prompted to ensure the device remains compliant and fully secured.

  1. Operating System Updates and Upgrades
Operating system updates and upgrades are delivered through enterprise management tools.

  • Users will receive on-screen prompts to begin installation when an upgrade is available.

  • Upon completion, users will be prompted to restart their device to finalize the installation.

  • Please follow all prompts in a timely manner to ensure successful completion.

  • Allow up to one to two hours for the update and restart process to complete.

  1. Network Connectivity (Recommended)
For optimal performance and timely update delivery, devices should periodically connect to the UT network.

  • When on-site (on-premises), do not connect to VPN, as this may interfere with update delivery.

  • When off-site, connect via VPN as needed to ensure updates are received.
