1/1/2026 | UTBackup device deactivation change | UTBackup devices that have been inactive for 6 months are automatically deactivated from the backup system. The data goes into “cold storage” for 60 days. When that time has lapsed, the data is no longer recoverable. ITS is proposing to change it from 6 months to 3 months. | Campus-wide | Some clients drop off due to technical reasons. If not being monitored regularly, your backup could be in a failed state for months. If it reaches 3 months, the device could be deactivated preventing any new backups from taking place. | Recovery only available during the 60 day “cold storage” time. If that expires, there is no recovery. RECOMMEND backups are regularly checked to ensure everything is working as expected. If assistance is required, please submit a ticket: https://help.cns.utexas.edu |
