Temporary Local Administrator Access for Macs
Temporary local administrator access on Macs is provided by TAP - Temporary Admin Password, if you have access to run TAP on your Mac. To request access, fill out this form: Local Computer Administrative Access Request
TAP is a program for Mac and Linux that will provide an admin username and password which is active for a limited period of time.
To use TAP, Open UT Self Service on your Mac.
You can find it in your Applications folder or by searching for "Self Service" in Spotlight (press Command + Space and type "Self Service").
Open it, then to see TAP, you must log in to Self Service using your EID.
In the bottom left corner of Self Service, click Sign In.
Sign in with your EID and password - press Enter after entering your password.
Search in Self Service for "TAP", or go to Catalog, Security and Compliance.
Click Run to open TAP.
TAP will open and show you the admin username and password to use for unlocking settings or installing applications.
Copy the password to the clipboard if needed, or leave the TAP dialog open until you are done using it.
When prompted to install software, enter the admin username and password provided by TAP.
The admin password is active for 30 minutes by default. If you need more time, you can select a different duration from the TAP dialog before the current one expires and click Update Expiration.
After the expiration the admin password will no longer work. You may open TAP again to get a new password.
Closing TAP does not affect the password. However each time you open TAP a new password is generated.
