Digitization Tools in Classroom 1.210A







Basically all of this will need to be more fleshed out, but here is what I think we should start with to get people using it. 

  1. Basic hardware descriptions, with clearly labelled photos of each (and maybe demonstrations of use, since some people might never have used these before)

  2. Basic software installed to be used in converting or editing the media, and how to use it 

Audio


Hardware basics: Tascam MKIII-102 cassette deck (include a picture, labelled with basic info)

Software basics: Audacity

  • increasing audio levels so that they are as high as possible without saturating 

  • Archival standards for digitization: 96-24 (96 kHz, 24-bit)

    • Edit > Audio Settings - to change the resolution

  • recording and exporting 

Video


Hardware Basics: JVS SVHS VCR (include labelled picture)

  • VHS conversion 

Software Basics: (look into this)

Scanner 


Hardware Basics: Epson Perfection Photo 4990 scanner

  • include size of scanning area 

  • paper, photos, film, transparencies, slides, etc 

Software Basics: Epson Scan
